Greetings....
Changes are nothing new to all of us.  As we just changed our clocks the first of April because of daylights savings; so why not go one more change and that would be regarding a new editor for “The Brass Ring.”  After serving two years as editor it is time to step off the merry-go-round platform.  Dennis Towndrow has graciously accepted the duties of editor.

Dennis, on behalf of all the Colorado Carousel Members, we wish you much success as you make your plans and establish lots of wonderful ideas for the printing and reading of “The Brass Ring.”
Donna Bowlin

First let me say, from all the Colorado Carousel Members, THANK YOU so much Donna, for being such a great editor over the last couple years.  I know how challenging it can be to create a News Letter of this caliber.  You and Brad have done a fantastic job, and I can only hope I will maintain the same quality you both established.

With that said, let me apologize for the lateness of this edition.  It has taken a while for this conversion to occur.  However, there are great plans for the next edition and hopefully it will be out closer to on time.  Speaking of the next issue, for all of you that submitted an article not published here, you can be assured it will appear in the “summer” news letter.  As web developer for the CCS site, I would also like to remind readers this publication and up to date information is also available on-line at: chasingmerrygorounds.com/CCS.html

2006 COLORADO CAROUSEL SOCIETY ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
The Society met on January 21, 2006, at 11:30 AM at the Marquardt Barn in Erie, CO.  Donna Bowlin, of the Steering Committee called the meeting to order at 11:55 AM.  The Secretary’s Report from 2005 was read and approved.  The Treasurer’s report was presented by Al Noren and was approved.  Please see this report for details.

Reports from the liaisons to the antique carousels are as follows:
Kit Carson County – Jo Downey.    Basically there is no change to the carousel itself but there was some roof damage from a hail store.  The museum is mostly finished with a $340,000 historical society grant.  A new cherry floor was added and an E. J. Morris donkey also been added.  This will be a part of an exhibit.  There will be a grant opening sometime this summer.
Eliches/Six Flags – Betty Hull.  Fifteen pieces have been refurbished, the floor resurfaced, new lights added and slides refurbished.  The historical Eliches Theater has a goal of 7.5 million to restore and rebuild with a museum.  The foundation has raised 3 million so far.
Lakeside – Linda Petrukitas.    Condition remains the same.
Cheyenne Mountain – Will Morton has a couple of animals to be restored.  Maintenance in the new location has been an issue.
North Pole – Jean Martell.  A new tent has been purchased and touch up painting will be done before the season opener in mid-May.  Seniors or now free.
Pueblo -   George Williams.  A report will be published (see page 3 of this News Letter).
Nederland– Scott has been talking to someone about a location for his carousel and he hopes to have it up and running soon.  He has applied for a non-profit status.
Denver Zoo - Billie Noren.  Anna Bowie reports a wonderful year with 275,000 riders and $237,000 in revenue.  Touch up only is needed and it continues to be open every day and is very popular.

Old Business:  A gathering of the owners of the carousels which was discussed last year is still a possibility.  The club will invite them to the technical conference in May,  Also, we will try to direct our invitation to the appropriate individual with a “Reserve the Date” card followed up with a meeting agenda, phone call, etc.
Notes:    Billie Noren led a thank you and presented a gift to Donna and Brad for their work on the newsletter.
Please feel free to volunteer for the Steering Committee
Thanks again to Jan and Dennis for arranging the wonder trip to Chicago and Wisconsin.
The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is providing free entry day to CCS members on May 20.
The NCA Technical Conference will be held on May 5 and  6
Dues may have to be raised to cover the newsletter cost ($1,280 for 4 issues)

A silent auction was held and a carving program presented by Will Morton.
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful soup and sandwich lunch.
Respectfully submitted, Audrey Marquardt

Keep a L@@K OUT for a special bulletin detailing the event.

Historic Downtown Montrose is in pursuit of a carousel for Montrose and will be hosting their annual Historic Montrose meeting May 20.  They will use this event to further promote the carousel project.  Their Visitor Convention Bureau has presented Historic Montrose with $3000 to carve the first horse.  Tim Hinz, a carver from lakewood, has been commissioned to carve this horse and he will be present to unveil it at the May event.
To add an additional dimension to their annual meeting, they are having a “Piece of History” auction.  People of the Montrose community are requested to donate a :piece of history.:  The funds generated from the auction will be used to continue the operation of Historic Montrose and the carousel project.
It would be very exciting if we could provide Montrose with some items that would be advertised as donated by The Colorado Carousel Society.  Gina Quackenbush has volunteered to pick up your item(s) and deliver them to Montrose.  Gina  can be reached at: (720)  887-1799
